I-Throid 12.5 mg (Iodine), 90 Caps
Each i-Throid capsule delivers 12.5 mg iodine. I tend to use this:
- If iodine is low on lab testing, provided thyroid antibodies are negative (if they are positive, too much iodine can potentiate the process of Hashimoto's);
- If TSH and free T4 are normal, and antibodies are normal, but free T3 is low (because iodine will help to convert T4 to T3), or
- If thyroid antibodies are normal, and you have estrogen dominance symptoms but normal estrogen and progesterone levels. This is because iodine will convert estradiol to estriol, a weaker estrogen.
Note: If you take high doses of iodine, your TSH levels with elevate for about 6 months but it does not mean you are hypothyroid. Also, I'd recommend taking selenium along with iodine just to protect against Hashimoto's.
